Advocating for autonomy.

In accordance with our mission to advance the quality and accessibility of midwifery in Texas, ATM advocates for midwives with the Texas Legislature and the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) to ensure policies that protect access to midwifery and support the profession.

ATM’s legislative committee:

  • tracks legislation that may affect midwives and our consumers

  • initiates and supports legislation to sustain the practice of midwifery

  • initiates and supports updates to regulations that support midwives and improve safety

  • fights hostile bills and regulations

  • supports midwives in building relationships with doctors and hospitals 

Legislative Priorities:

Currently, ATM is working to allow Licensed Midwives to carry essential life-saving medications without standing orders from a physician.
