Introducing the ATM Quality Assurance & Quality Improvement (QA/QI) Committee
The Association of Texas Midwives is proud to announce the formation of the Quality Assurance & Quality Improvement (QA/QI) Committee, a volunteer-based initiative dedicated to strengthening safety, transparency, and professional growth within Texas midwifery.
The overall goals of the QA/QI Committee are evolving and flexible, with a shared vision of promoting accountability, collaboration, and continual improvement in midwifery care across the state.
Current Goals & Initiatives
Establishing a structured, statewide peer review system accessible to all midwives, supporting midwives through reflective case review, mentorship, and professional development
Developing a consumer feedback pathway to offer mediation and resolution options outside the regulatory process
Collecting de-identified outcome data to identify trends and improve care
Collaborating with the ATM Legislative Committee to help inform and support policy and legislation that advances safe, evidence-based midwifery care in Texas
Creating a TDLR Liaison team to strengthen communication and understanding between midwives and regulators
Fostering a culture of respect, safety, and unity among Texas midwives
Requirements to Join
Must be an active or retired Licensed Midwife (LM)
Must be an ATM-registered preceptor or meet the qualifications
Must agree to follow ATM Bylaws and Policies as well as the QA/QI Committee's policies, confidentiality, and structure
Participation is open to all who meet these requirements—no interview process required. However, all members must uphold the principles of confidentiality, respect, and professionalism; failure to do so may result in removal from the committee.
Committee members may also have the opportunity to serve on subcommittees as they are formed, such as Peer Review, Research & Data, Birth Transfer Initiatives, TDLR Liaison, or Consumer Feedback & Mediation.
This is a volunteer position that will require time commitments for meetings and peer reviews; this position is open to all eligible ATM members statewide.
