What Is the ATM CE Approval Program?
Continuing education (CE) is structured, planned, and measurable learning designed to support ongoing professional development. Unlike academic coursework, CE does not award academic credit — instead it enhances knowledge and skills beyond entry-level midwifery training.
Organizations and individuals wishing to offer CE programs to Texas midwives must obtain ATM approval. ATM then issues contact hour certificates, proof of attendance, and formally accredits the programs.
Approved programs may be advertised on texasmidwives.com. To request a listing, email a brief program description to ceu@texasmidwives.com.
To qualify, CE programs must:
- ✓ Go beyond basic entry-level midwifery education
- ✓ Update or expand existing knowledge and skills
- ✓ Introduce new knowledge relevant to practice
- ✓ Offer professional or experiential enrichment
- ✓ Include clear, measurable learning objectives
- ✓ Feature qualified instructors in planning and delivery
- ✓ Provide participant evaluation upon completion
- ✓ Maintain attendance records for at least 4 years
Approval Process
How It Works
Each application is reviewed by two volunteer evaluators with midwifery expertise using ATM standards. Applications must be complete, well-organized, and clearly defined.
Prepare Your Application
Gather your program brochure, evaluation forms, sample certificate, full presenter CVs (short bios not accepted), session content outlines, and measurable learning objectives.
Submit Online & Pay Fee
Complete the application at least 60 days before your planned advertisement date. Pay via PayPal to ceu@texasmidwives.com or by check payable to the Association of Texas Midwives.
Expert Review — Min. 30 Days
Two volunteer evaluators review your application. ATM notifies you of approval status, contact hours granted, or denial. If more information is needed, you have 30 days to respond.
Receive Written Determination
Outcomes: Approved, Approved Upon Completion, Partial Program Approval, or Denied — each with a written explanation. Denials may be appealed to the ATM Board of Directors.
Deliver & Issue Certificates
Deliver the full approved program within the two-year window. Issue ATM-formatted certificates to participants with contact hours, CEUs, ATM approval ID, and attendee details.
