Public Statement from the Association of Texas Midwives

The Association of Texas Midwives (ATM) is aware of recent media reports regarding disciplinary action taken against a Texas midwife. Our thoughts are first and foremost with the families who experienced these losses.

Because these events involve active regulatory proceedings, many details remain confidential. We ask the public to refrain from speculation while the process is ongoing. With permission, ATM wishes to clarify that the two cases under investigation are separate incidents, and the emergency license suspension followed concerns raised about the midwife's public social media comments.

Licensed midwives in Texas practice within a regulated framework that includes licensure, continuing education, peer review, and formal complaint procedures — safeguards that exist to support accountability and patient safety across all healthcare professions. In that same spirit, ATM is forming a Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement Committee. One of its primary goals will be improving transfer relationships and communication between hospitals and midwives.

Midwifery is both a privilege and a responsibility. ATM remains committed to supporting licensed midwives and to engaging constructively with the broader healthcare system, so that Texas families continue to receive safe, compassionate care. Please contact ATM with any questions.
